Three reasons why going simple is better – plus six easy decorating tips.

It’s unmistakable: the holidays are here. Stores are decked out in green and red, there’s a Santa waving on every corner, and once-barren trees along downtown streets are made resplendent with thousands of sparkling lights. Bring some of that magic and cheerfulness to your RV, inside and out.

Three Reasons to Go Simple

Holiday decorations add festivity and a change of scenery to the interior and exterior of your RV, but they don’t need to be expensive or bulky. When decorating for Christmas, keep one primary goal in mind: simplicity. Here’s why.

  1. You don’t want too many decorations taking up valuable storage space. Choose items that are lightweight and can be compactly packed.
  2. If you’re planning on traveling while decorations are up, beware of too many loose decorations – they’ll most likely need to be packed and stored, making it time-consuming to get on the road. Instead, think of things in your RV currently that could be swapped out with more Christmas-themed alternatives. (Okay, have a knick-knack or two around, but don’t overdo it!)
  3. There isn’t a whole lot of space in an RV, and it doesn’t take much to decorate to make your home feel or smell like Christmas.

Tips for Dressing Your RV Up for Christmas

  1. Lights pack a lot of punch. They are some of the most economical, portable, and compact of decorating options. From classic white to colorful big bulbs, you can string lights around your windows, awnings, across the dashboard… anywhere really. If you’re in one spot for the winter, then you can extend that love for light to the outside of your RV, such as along walkways.
  2. Dress things up with plants. Little ones. You don’t need the largest poinsettia at the grocery store. Swap out existing plants with holiday ones. As for a tree, consider getting one that fits on your tabletop. You can also go flat by placing a photo in a frame and hanging it from a wall. If you want natural greens, go easy – that scent can be overwhelming! You can find remnants or sprigs of evergreen trees (fake and real) to add to vases or tuck into cup holders. Keep in mind that some natural greens, such as mistletoe, are poisonous around pets.
  3. Add some flare to the windows. Use window decals such as snowflakes (or make your own out of paper) to dress up the RV inside and out. The sky is the limit as far as to what you can choose. You can also think about adding a shaped light to the back window for a little extra sparkle.
  4. Showcase the dashboard. Line the dash with holiday stuffed animals, add some lights or greenery… all when you’re stationary of course.
  5. Ornaments aren’t just for trees. Hang ornaments from knobs, hooks, or picture frames. You may love the vintage glass ones, but opt instead for ornaments that are hand sewn, wood, plastic, or metal so that they are less likely to break.
  6. Swap out linens. Pillow covers and duvet covers are easy to store and don’t take up a lot of space. Put on holiday or winter themed ones to add a little extra cheer to your living spaces. Do you use placements? Swap out the regular ones with ones that feature Santa and some reindeer.

Decorations aren’t necessary for enjoying the holidays or feeling in a festive mood, but they are fun to have around. Enjoy this season with friends, family, and of course, your cozy RV.
