As the RV industry continues to grow and evolve, a new wave of RVers has made their way onto the scene. Unlike a traditional engine-powered or towable rig, these RVers are enjoying a more permanent unit: a Destination Trailer.

Destination Trailers, often referred to as park models, offer the same amenities a regular rig might – minus the engine or towabilty. They are designed for the campers who own or rent a seasonal lot and vacation there for extended periods of time. They have the same look and feel as a regular mobile rig, but are unique as they generally have a larger floor plan, higher ceilings, and heavier furniture.

So how do you know if a Destination Trailer is right for you?

These trailers have opened up the RV lifestyle to people who may not have the means or the desire for a mobile rig. They are designed for the camper who has found the ideal park or resort and has the intention to vacation there for an extended period of time. They are also perfect for people who might not feel comfortable behind the wheel of a large RV or tow vehicle but still want to experience the comforts, adventure, and community most parks offer.

How do you get it to your lot?

After you’ve purchased your trailer, it will be towed directly to your campground of choice and parked on the lot. Here it will remain – even during off-season months – until you decide you’re ready to move on to the next adventure. If you decide to sell or switch parks, you can usually contact the same dealership where you purchased your unit and they’ll come out and help you move.

What are some of the advantages?

Because this trailer won’t be exploring the open roads, aerodynamics and weight are not a concern. This allows for the roofs and slide outs to be a few feet taller, giving you more room to stretch out. And since these trailers are not intended to be continuously hauled, the manufacturers are able to install furniture and appliances that are much heavier and more like what you would find in a fixed residence.

How much do they cost?

As is the same with most RVs, the size, make, and model of the unit will determine the price. Generally, the larger the unit and the nicer the amenities, the more you can expect to pay. Although it may feel like you’re investing in a summer cottage, a Destination Trailer will not set you back any more than a traditional RV.
