With fall swiftly approaching, most of the country has one thing on their minds: football. This American pastime is the perfect opportunity to showcase your team spirit and host an unforgettable tailgate party in your RV. The following Michigan football programs have designated oversized vehicle parking areas that are ready to accommodate you, your guests, and your RV.
Detroit Lions (Detroit):
Michigan’s NFL team offers a spacious, open-air parking lot at Eastern Market that is ideal for RVs. At $40 a space (some larger RVs may require an additional space), tailgaters can show off their rigs while grilling burgers and catching up with fellow fans. Those going to the game can enjoy the fresh air with a brief 10-minute walk to the stadium, or take advantage of the $5 shuttle that runs from Eastern Market to Ford Field every 15 minutes.
Michigan State University Spartans (East Lansing):
Sparty fans can caravan to Lot 92 on Service Road to tailgate among the masses. For just $60 an RV, you set up camp, pour yourself a cold one, and show that green and white pride. Be sure to tune into WJR-AM (760) or WMMQ-FM (94.9) to stay up to date on game day traffic!
University of Michigan Wolverines (Ann Arbor):
The Big House boasts a variety of options for RVers on game day. Wolverines can take their pick of three different RV accessible lots:o Pioneer High School: Parking begins at 10 p.m. on game day Fridays. Seasonal pass holders will be assigned a reserved parking place while everyone else is first come, first served. For inquires call, 734-358-7275. Brown Lot (Varsity Tennis Center): Opening Saturday mornings at 7 a.m., tailgaters can secure themselves a space in the Brown Lot until Sunday morning. As spaces are limited, tailgaters will want to get to this lot bright and early (cash sales only). Blue Lot: There are no game day cash sales for RVs in this lot – tailgaters will have to reserve their space ahead of time to be located here. Central Michigan University Chippewas (Mount Pleasant):
For all you Chips out there, CMU permits RVs in lot 63W. For $40 a game, or $120 a season, RVers can pull up four hours before kickoff and get settled. Since tailgating is no longer permitted once the game is underway, RVers will want to pick up some tickets – prices range from $10-$22.
Grand Valley State University Lakers (Allendale):
For $25, Lakers can haul their RVs to Allendale and park in Lot C. Lots Gold and Blue are available with a GVSU approved pass. With brat in hand, tune your radio into the GVSU Football Radio Network or their flagship station ESPN 96.1FM (Grand Rapids) to hear the game broadcasted live from the comforts of your coach.
