Looking to switch up your typical movie night? Grab your family for a fun change of pace or treat your significant other to a romantic date! Gather your coziest pillows and blankets, load up the car with plenty of snacks, and make your way down to one of Michigan’s vintage drive-in theaters.

Although you’ll have to leave your RV at the campsite for most of these theaters, if you have a tow vehicle, a compact car you pull behind your rig, or a friendly neighbor that will lend you theirs, you’ll definitely want to explore one of Michigan’s numerous outdoor theaters. It’s a summer tradition!

 

Capri Drive-In Theater

 

If you find yourself in Southwest Michigan this summer, head over to Coldwater and catch a film at the Capri Drive-In Theater – rated one of the “10 Best Drive-In’s in America.” With two large screens and designated parking spots, you won’t have to worry about a restricted view. With the option to rent a portable radio for $2 or simply tune into radio frequencies 89.7FM or 89.3FM, you won’t miss a second of dialogue. Be sure to catch one of this summer’s blockbusters on the big screens!

The Hi-Way Drive-In Theater

 

This summer, you’ll certainly want to catch a film at “Michigan’s oldest outdoor movie theater,” the Hi-Way Drive-In. The theater opens at 7:30pm with movies beginning at dusk. They even have space for rustic campers, although there aren’t any hookups for water or electrical.

Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater

 

If you’re looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of always-popular Traverse City, take a quick trip down to Honor and enjoy a film at the Cherry Bowl Drive-In. Equipped with vacuum tube motiograph amplifiers and vintage ’50s vibes, you’ll surely feel like you’ve stepped back in time! Cherry Bowl is the perfect place for the family, as they only play G, PG, and PG-13 features, plus the place is packed with playgrounds, mini golf, and various special events. Your kids will never want to leave!

Getty-4 Drive-In

 

You can take a break from catching sun on the Muskegon shoreline and cruise down to the Getty-4 Drive-In to view a sunset flick. Kids will love the playground and arcade room, while parents will love the sense of nostalgia from their youth. And be sure to stick around after the first show, as every night is a double feature.
