National Morel Mushroom Festival

Each May, Boyne City, Michigan fills with hundreds of mushroom lovers from around the country who come seeking that elusive delicacy-the marvelous morel. Found in nearby woods and clearings, morels are favored by those who know their ‘shrooms. Boyne City has hosted the National Morel Mushroom Festival for 55 years.

For a few short days, everything is all about mushrooms. Restaurants prepare exotic, morel-laden entrees, local songsters sing of the morel (click on the player to the left to listen), secret hunting places (maybe) and recipes (definitely) are shared, and everybody goes on one of the mushroom hunts. A good year can yield hundreds of the mouth-watering treats. But even when a dry spell or late spring makes morels scarce, morels can be tasted at several tasting events and the festival is always fun for everyone.

National Morel Mushroom Festival

Michigan’s mighty morel summons fans nationwide to Boyne City:

The occasion is the National Morel Mushroom Festival held in May to celebrate the famed hometown specialty. And the chance to get in on the first taste of spring draws a mass of hopeful fans into town looking to unearth some precious bounty.”

2016 Kalamazoo Greek Festival @ Arcadia Creek Festival Site
Jun 2 @ 11:00 am – Jun 4 @ 11:45 pm

Kalamazoo Greek Festival

Forty years ago it all began with a small gathering of friends enjoying the Greek culture in the basement of Dionysos Restaurant. Little did Theo and Stacy know that the people of Kalamazoo would embrace and accept their heritage with overwhelming enthusiasm. After the first year, people came and went and requested more Greek cultural events. Theo and Stacy decided to not only share the food and drink of Greece, but also the song and dance. Within a few years the festival grew in size and it could no longer be held in the restaurant. After much consideration it was decided to make the festival a one day outdoor event. The festival eventually grew in size to a three day event where musicians, singers, and dancers would come via Greece and share the authentic Greek experience. When joining Kalamazoo at the festival this year, in memory of Theo, remember him singing and dancing with his glass of Ouzo exclaiming OPA!

Greek Entertainment

Kalamazoo Greek Festival
The Kalamazoo Greek shows begin with a spectacular musical performance. The Levendes are a full Greek orchestra who give a unique flair to traditional and modern Greek music.

Twelve Hellenic dancers will entertain you with a variety of dances that reflect the Greek culture and customs in their traditional costumes. They will introduce you to some of the most beautiful dances of Greece.

No Greek show would be complete without traditional belly dancing performances. The Kalamazoo Greek Festival is proud to feature the West Michigan School of Middle Eastern Dance who will amaze and thrill you. They will even give you a lesson in this expressive and beautiful language of dance and make you a belly dancing artist in your own right.

Food

Many people are unaware that all of the food at the Kalamazoo Greek Festival is lovingly prepared by hand by Stacy in the Old World Greek Tradition. Stacy begins preparing all the entrees months ahead of time and does not stop until the last customer is satisfied and full.
