HUD Administrator Pamela Beck Danner Meets with MARVAC Staff

Recently Pamela Beck Danner Administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development traveled to Michigan to meet with MARVAC staff to discuss the recent memorandum regarding Park Model issues.  Executive Director, Tim DeWitt and Director, Bill Sheffer discussed with Ms. Danner the concerns of the industry as it relates to the department’s interpretation.  “We feel the conversation went well and Pam was receptive to our concerns” said DeWitt.

Insurance Coverage for MARVAC Members

Association members are eligible to participate in the Association Accidental Death & Dismemberment Policy program through Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company.  This policy is part of your annual membership fees.

Members are allowed one $10,000 policy, per company membership. This is good for one single individual of company designation. This coverage is automatic for MARVAC members who are in good standing.

If you have not completed a Designation of Beneficiaries form, or need to submit an updated one, click here to access it. Please complete the form and submit it to the Association office.

HARVEST Scholarship Applications Available

If you know college students who could benefit from receiving a HARVEST scholarship, have them visit the association’s website, and download the application.

The HARVEST Education Foundation is a non-profit education foundation created by the Michigan Manufactured Housing, Recreation Vehicle and Campground Association in 1991. HARVEST grants scholarships to persons who would like to pursue a career in the recreation vehicle or campground industry. Applications may be downloaded and printed from marvac.org.

RV/MH Hall of Fame News

ELKHART, Ind. – Darryl Searer, chairman and president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame (Hall), is encouraged by the early support of the “Kevin Clayton Debt Elimination Challenge” fund raising campaign.  Commitments are coming in from large and small companies, as well as individuals.

Searer said, “Our goal is to raise $1 million in this campaign over the next 3 to 5 years.  These new pledges and donations, plus Kevin Clayton’s initial pledge of $200,000, means that we are more than 35% there in only a few weeks since the campaign was announced.”

Pledges to date and donations include:

Kevin Clayton, Clayton Homes pledged $40,000 per year for 5 years. Total of $200,000
Gary McDaniel, YES! Communities, pledged $25,000 per year for the next three years. Total $75,000
Joe Stegmayer, Cavco Industries, Inc., pledged $10,000 per year for 5 years Total $50,000
Barry Cole, MH Insurance Services pledged $2,000 per year for the next five years. Total $10,000
Debra Pizer, Zeman MHI pledged $2,000 per year for 5 years. Total pledge $10,000
Senco Brands, Inc., donated $2,500
Fairmont Homes donated $2,000
• Multiple individual donations.  Total $3,500

RV Historian Al Hesselbert Retires

ELKHART, Ind. — Al Hesselbart, who served the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum for 20 years, announced that he is retiring at the end of the month.   Hesselbart is well known as an RV/MH historian, librarian, lecturer and author.  Al said, “I’ve always dreamed of having the independence and freedom to do what I want to do, when I want to do it.”

Al started his career in the RV/MH industries in October 1994 when Carl Ehry, then president of the RV/MH Heritage Foundation in Elkhart, recruited him as vice president and general manager.  “Little did I know it at the time” Al recalled, “but that turned out to be a life-changing experience.”
