  Outdoor Enthusiast
Coldwater Country, otherwise known as Branch County (fun fact: this county sells more fishing licenses than any other in the state), has more than 100 lakes, including two chains of lakes. Fishermen can enjoy catching panfish like bluegill and perch, as well as good-eating walleye. Don’t forget your fishing license from the Michigan DNR! Visit coldwatercountry.com for a list of lakes and their locations in the county.
Spend the day fishing along one of the chains of lakes: the south chain (eight lakes and
16 miles long) or the north chain (seven lakes). Sunbathe, catch a bass or two, and see some gorgeous waterfront scenery. In the north chain, there are a few restaurants and ice cream shops along the way that are accessible by boat. The south chain has several sandbars. Rentals are available if you don’t have your own boat.
Foodie
If you’re a dedicated foodie, you not only enjoy a nice meal out, you enjoy making a nice meal in. You’re not afraid to try new flavors and combinations, maybe attempting to make something that reminds you of a restaurant favorite.
When it comes to needing fruit for your home-cooking activities, visit Overhiser Orchards in South Haven. You can pick your own or purchase fruit that’s already been picked. Depending on when you visit, you’ll encounter sweet and tart cherries (July), apricots and peaches (July), pears and plums (September), and apples (September). Fresh fruit will, as Gordon Ramsey says, elevate a dish with freshness and punch — especially Michigan fruit. However, we’re biased.
Dog Owner
Round Barn Winery in Baroda hosts Jammin’ in the Vineyard. Every weekend in the summer, you are invited to rock out to live music; partake in Round Barn’s vast variety of wines, liquors, and beer; and grab a bite to eat from the food truck. But the best part of it all? Dogs are more than welcome!
If you’re a teacher, consider signing up for their Teacher’s Hall Pass. This benefit is offered to all teachers for discounts on beer, wine, and apparel, as well as free entry to all Jammin’ in the Vineyard events. Learn more on their website, roundbarn.com.
