Support the local high school by attending the annual Tawas area Sunrise Solstice festival. Try your hand at a variety of art activities, or simply recline in your lawn chair and listen to local musicians.

Every year, the quaint town of Oscoda hosts their Art on the Beach event. Explore work from more than 100 local artisans.

Things to do in the Northeast/Thumb Region
1. Pick up some fresh food from the farmers market if you’ll be driving through Cheboygan on a Wednesday or Saturday morning.
2. Go on a glass-bottom boat tour of shipwrecks in Alpena with Alpena Shipwreck Tours.
3. Walk along the quarter-mile break wall in Caseville, which juts out into Saginaw Bay.
4. The Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse on the shore of
Lake Huron is one of the oldest in Michigan and is known for paranormal activity. The museum is free to visit May-October.
5. The Huron County Nature Center has diverse landscapes over 120 acres, all connected by an intensive trail system.
6. Visit the Wurtsmith Aviation Museum in Oscoda, on the site of a former Air Force base.
7. Pinconning is easy to bypass, but don’t let an opportunity to visit Pinconning Cheese Co. sneak by. It’s been an up north favorite since 1948 and has more than cheese: strudel, fudge, smoked fish, and much more.
8. Knaebe’s Krunchy Apple Farm in Rogers City lives up to its name. They’re open from Labor Day until early November. Choose from 47 varieties of apples for the kids and pick up a growler of hard cider for mom and dad.
